Day 1 in the Gym

Brian and I threw some weights around in the gym at lunch today.  It was chest, shoulders, and triceps day.  A couple of chest exercises, one shoulders exercise, one triceps exercise, and finished off with a tri-set of chest, shoulders, and triceps.  My body took it pretty well.  An hour of basketball in the evening was a good way to wrap the day up with cardio.  I think it was a successful start of a fit 2016.

Mommy Bear

Serena got some princess toys from AC (Aunt Corrie) for Christmas.  These princesses include Elsa, Anna, Cinderella, and Ariel.  One of them is Merida from the movie Brave.  I realized that she hasn’t watched Brave yet, so we watched it together this morning.  In the movie, Merida had a disagreement with her mother and wanted to change her mother’s mind.  Merida visited a witch and turned her mother into a bear by accident.  I was concerned when we watched this part.

After I came back from playing basketball, Anya told me that Serena was fighting her again and did not want to nap.  While Anya was trying to hold her down to nap, Serena pulled her arm out and pointed towards the ceiling.  Anya asked, “what are you doing, Serena?”  She whispered, “I’m turning you into a bear.”

I’m afraid of what she will become when she turns into a teenager…

Organizing Day

We took out the Christmas tree and put away all Christmas decorations.  It felt good.  Taking the lights off the roof was made a lot easier with Sarah and Derek’s ladder.  This is unusually early for us to put away Christmas stuff, but it’s the weekend and the kids were semi-behaving.  With my mom’s help, we stored all the boxes at Crownwood.  It was a productive day.  It also felt good to have things put away.  The walk after at the Butchart Gardens was refreshing and made the work we did in the morning worthwhile; however, poor Anya had to stay in the car.

Hang outs with the Stretches tomorrow.  Then BASKETBALL!  It will be a great day to finish the holiday!

From 2015 to 2016

2015 was a big year.  I achieved 2.5 out of the three goals I set for myself.  My 2015 goals were:

  1. Finish Crownwood basement renovation
  2. Get my master’s degree
  3. Become a better communicator

The first and second goals have been completed, but I could have done better with the Communicator one.  It’s definitely something I will need to work on in 2016.

In 2016, I have three new goals for myself:

  1. Track my 366 daily improvement actions on reading, writing, exercising, and meditating
  2. Finish my Toastmasters Competent Communication manual
  3. Read 12 books (a book a month)
